Sometimes you encounter situations so horrifically bad that you can't help but burst out chuckling. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer extent of chaos and just throws its hands up, opting for laughter as a coping strategy.
But then, you realize that it's not really actually that amusing. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you felt morphs into a groan.

Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with the case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look decent. As I was hurrying out the door, I fell and landed all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was completely running behind for a very important appointment.

It all started out badly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then it went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
